The ‘main’ beach in this beautiful part of the world stretches from the mouth of Poole Harbour all around Poole Bay to the mouth of Christchurch harbour at Hengistbury Head, although it changes name (Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Boscombe) as well as harbouring a number of cliffs and ‘chines’ as well as 2 piers – Bournemouth and Boscombe!
On the other side of Poole Harbour entrance, the beach continues as the sheltered and unspoilt Shell Bay & Studland beaches, surrounded by National Trust land and providing a picturesque introduction to the Isle of Purbeck.
Bournemouth Beach (Pier)
Built in 1880 to consolidate Bournemouth’s credentials as a major seaside resort the pier stretches over 300 metres into the sea. Back in its heyday the pier was used as a departure point for steamers travelling along the south coast. These days pleasure cruises to Swanage, Poole and the Isle of Wight still depart from here.
Located in the most vibrant and cosmopolitan town on the south coast, surrounded by some of the UK’s most beautiful beaches.
Set in between seven miles of smooth sand and crystalline water, Bournemouth Pier offers a variety of attractions for the whole family and new for 2014 the RockReef Adventure Activity Attraction featuring the amazing PierZip a world’s first Zip Wire from Pier to Beach.
Bournemouth Pier is an amazing day out, excellent fun for children and adults alike and the ideal way to beat boredom. Forget about the everyday grind and spend some quality time with your family and friends on the pier.
Dorset enjoys nearly 100 miles of coastline so it’s no wonder we’ve got some brilliant beaches that everyone will enjoy.
